Hurricane Rita passed us by…

We were prepared. The local schools were closed on Thursday and Friday. The fuel stations in town were pumped dry. Our town is off of I-10 between Houston and San Antonio. Quite a few evacuees from Katrina had made their temporary home here… by Thursday, our small town was home to Rita’s evacuees as well.

I have been remiss in my delay to add the above banner & link to this space.

I drove through Louisiana & into Biloxi, MS many multiple times last school year to visit my boyfriend. My daughter and I walked along the beach in Gulfport. My boyfriend gave me the grand tour of the area. So many beautiful old homes… So much history… so many super nice people…

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I am a substitute teacher. Today, we had a new student in our class - from Louisiana. She is four years old. 4 year olds need a home… need normal… need routine… & comfort. This afternoon, we played DUCK-DUCK-GOOSE. =) She played too.

Please donate $$$ to the American Red Cross and specify that it is for those immediately affected by this disaster - those in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Labor Day has come and gone.

This year is flying by - it seems like just yesterday that summer vacation was just beginning. Oh well… I’ve heard that time passes by more quickly as we get older, I just wasn’t quite expecting it to happen this quickly.

Anyway…

A friend of the family has started a welcome wagon business and has placed a large order for flower pens. =)

I adore orders & requests. They represent a challenge.

Which brings me to the title up there (looks up)… I received an email late this afternoon from a woman in Australia.

This business is growing larger each day & each day the world wide web takes me and this business a bit farther away from (& closer to) home.

Challenges… btw, I am working on several at the moment. I was waylaid this past weekend (with a pesky summer cold) but will pursue my goals again this weekend. Why the weekend? I have been busy - substituting at the local elementary school (August 15th - September 16th).

This biz is all (mostly) me. Though at times (1500 order in April), I recruit help from my sis, my daughter, & my mom. My sis helped by wrapping the pens & completing the project, my daughter helped with wrapping pens with floral tape, and my mom helped by driving me to the different shops to procure more flowers - while I wrapped like a mad woman. To each of them, I offer my eternal thanks.

Now what brought that on? I’ll tell ya… I was checking up on a few of my competitors.

I have added a calendar to my site. School doesn’t start until August 15th and yet, early this afternoon I received a telephone call from the elementary school. I have been called to duty (substitute teacher) from the first day of school through at least September 2nd.

It seems that the pink daisy that I have on my home page as well as many other pages of my site has become very popular. I have found 2 blogs that are using the image as their background. No problem really EXCEPT for the fact that they are using my bandwidth (bandwidth theft) and not giving me any credit. Well, after repeated emails asking for the image to be removed - I modified the image and re-saved it with the same name. I added my business name and web address to the image. I will continue to monitor use of the image and will probably delete the image entirely from my server if their cooperation is not forthcoming.

I have no problem with this image being used on someone’s blog so long as the image is saved to their server and not direct linked to mine. THAT isn’t cool.
